Service Providers and Carriers

VeriWave offers solutions to help service providers and carriers deploy access and network edge services with confidence in the products chosen and the network design.

Where can VeriWave help service providers and carriers?

VeriWave solutions can be used at a variety of phases of network build-out and deployment:

  • Infrastructure network equipment vendor selection
  • Network Planning
  • Client device interoperability verification and acceptance

How can VeriWave help when selecting an infrastructure network equipment vendor?

Selecting the right vendor to equip your network is the basis for a reliable, maintenance free and profitable network. Using VeriWave, you can test and compare:

  • Residential broadband gateways or multimedia gateways for deployment in subscribers homes
  • Consumer grade or corporate grade WLAN Access Point for servicing hot-spots
  • Edge routers for managed access services at a corporate offices
  • WAN backhaul devices for wireless trunk solutions
  • Residential and multi-dwelling CPE devices providing broadband connectivity

How can VeriWave help when planning the network deployment?

Realistic network planning is one of the most significant means to reduce long-term network operation costs. When planning WLANs it is common for operators to spend significant amount of time analyzing and planning Access Point placement while neglecting to plan for capacity, service differentiation and QoS. This contributes to frequent network re-balancing, addition or re-location of Access Points and many times causes end-user dissatisfaction. VeriWave’s test solutions offer an operator the unique ability to pre-qualify a network in the lab and to assess how it will function once deployed.

How can VeriWave help when verifying device interoperability and acceptance?

Testing the interaction and impact of loaded live networks against specific devices and applications is essential to determine which brands, models and configurations will perform and interact best in existing networks and planned deployments.

Service Providers using dedicated open air test environments in empty office buildings have to date been limited to testing with a small number of laptops. With WaveAgent 2.0 OTA Interoperability Testing, third party device interoperability can be conducted in typical and fully loaded scenarios for unprecedented visibility into the conditions under which new products will excel.

WaveAgent 2.0 OTA Interoperability Testing also addresses the need to validate vendor-proprietary features such as unique security capabilities or handheld usage of bandwidth optimization techniques such as Space-Time Block Coding (STBC).

And while traditionally when poor performance was observed, determining the root cause proved tedious and time-consuming, WaveAgent 2.0 OTA Interoperability Testing clearly distinguishes client issues from network issues, minimizing costly delays and finger-pointing.

What does the VeriWave solution include?

  • Traffic generators / analyzers:
  • WaveAgent – A small software utility loaded onto the mobile device being tested. At just 64 kbytes, WaveAgent is the only test utility small enough not to interfere with the performance of the device being tested thus skewing test results. As the VeriWave system generates different mixes of traffic and conditions, WaveAgent measures the performance of and from the perspective of the mobile device. WaveAgent reports performance metrics as well as the configuration state of the mobile device back to the VeriWave system. WaveAgent is supported on a wide range of operating systems including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Mobile, and Linux. device
  • WaveQoE – test suite models real-world deployment network scenarios, such as residential, Multi dwelling units, branch office, hot-spot, and corporate office, and assesses the end-users’ actual quality-of-experience
    • WaveQoE provides simple specification of stateful, triple-play traffic that allows testers to see results as Quality of Experience, underlying quality of service, and ultimately individual flow metrics. The results presentation format provides a clear indication of whether or not customers would be happy with their application performance across the link and provides the underlying network metrics so appropriate QoS adjustments can be made to address any poor QoE results.
  • WaveAutomation - a comprehensive automation package that automated the VeriWave tests as well as the System Under Test (SUT)

Benefits

  • Network operations cost reduction through performance and service quality verification before deployment
  • Tests conducted in a wide range of operational scenarios that would otherwise be impossible to recreate before network goes live
  • Network assessed in realistic deployment scale
  • Use of automation reduces test cycle time from months to days with minimal tester intervention
