VeriWave Launches “Mobile Healthcare Test Suite” to Maximize Performance, Minimize Risks of WiFi Deployments

See the first Unified Approach to WiFi Network, Site & Device Testing Specifically for Healthcare at HIMSS Booth 8749

PORTLAND, OR, February 24, 2010 – VeriWave, Inc., the industry standard for ensuring WiFi performance, today announced the Mobile Healthcare Test Suite enabling healthcare IT professionals and developers of WiFi-enabled medical devices to ensure user satisfaction, network reliability and overall readiness for mobility. With healthcare facilities increasingly relying on WiFi to mobilize laptops, smart-phones, patient monitors, infusion pumps, video cameras and asset tracking devices, the Mobile Healthcare Test Suite is the first unified solution addressing performance, interoperability and onsite testing throughout development and deployment. The Mobile Healthcare Test Suite will be displayed at HIMSS in the VeriWave booth, number 8749.

“In healthcare networks, reliability can translate into lives saved while poor performance can jeopardize patients’ wellbeing and a facility’s reputation,” says Eran Karoly, VP Marketing at VeriWave. “The dynamic nature of WiFi increases the need to test and ensure interoperability, performance, and reliability ahead of time. VeriWave’s Mobile Healthcare Test Suite offers IT professionals, for the first time, insight into exactly how laptops, phones, patient monitors and other devices will coexist in their unique networks.”

The Mobile Healthcare Test Suite spans the life-cycle of wireless networks in the healthcare environment:

  • Device development: 802.11-enabled hardware and driver testing, QoS, functional testing, interoperability testing with real third-party devices, scalability.
  • Network design & deployment: vendor selection, AP capacity planning, pinpointing interference, interoperability, integration of WiFi with Ethernet.
  • Ongoing management: certifying new devices, measuring and optimizing the impact of new devices and applications prior to deployment.
  • 802.11n upgrades & installations: 802.11n-compliant WiFi presents distinctly different challenges than previous iterations of the standard. VeriWave pioneered 802.11n testing throughout the ratification process.

The Mobile Healthcare Test Suite includes:

  • WaveClient - performance testing of WiFi-enabled healthcare devices and the network
  • WaveInsite - onsite interoperability testing between mobile medical devices, vendor selection, and device certification
  • Interference Detection and Avoidance – onsite testing of the network’s ability to handle interferers
  • Healthcare Master Test Plan - unified test plan to guide network designers and implementers

WaveClient

VeriWave’s revolutionary client and ecosystem testing lets testers measure the end-user experience directly from the WiFi-enabled device’s perspective. A tiny, non-intrusive “WaveAgent” resides on the client device, receives traffic generated by the VeriWave system, representing the live network, and measures critical aspects of the end-user experience including: throughput, loss, roaming, voice/video quality, vendor interoperability, end-user Quality of Experience (QoE) and reliability.

By creating pre-defined mixes of network traffic representing healthcare environments, WaveClient allows testers to predict and guarantee performance with confidence.

WaveInsite

WaveInsite is the fastest and most efficient way to conduct “Over the Air” interoperability and performance testing of live WiFi Networks. With mere minutes of setup time, WaveInsite lets testers configure, conduct, and repeat a series of revealing tests measuring the most important factors impacting the user experience – speed, throughput, goodput, loss, scalability, voice quality, and vendor/device interoperability.

WaveInsite is the ultimate tool for Systems Integrators & end-users when selecting vendors, designing and deploying networks for optimal performance and certifying new networks and devices.

Interference Detection and Avoidance

Working in conjunction with WaveClient, the VeriWave test system creates precise and controlled interference, allowing testers to assess the networks ability detect and avoid common interference sources. These include Bluetooth, Microwave, white noise and radar pulses.

Healthcare Master Test Plan

Leveraging VeriWave’s experience in helping leading healthcare device and network infrastructure manufacturers bring WiFi products to market, the Healthcare Master Test Plan takes the user through a systematic step-by-step procedure to test mobile network components in real-world healthcare scenarios. The test plan takes into account the network’s unique nuances and challenges including: verifying interoperability between patient-care devices, co-existence with non mission-critical components such as laptops, the ability to detect and avoid interference, and the networks ability to deliver and prioritize a wide range of services including asset tracking, patient monitoring, surveillance video, voice communication, and doctor/nurse mobile applications.
